Kelly Meurer is an Associate Attorney at Jones Ward PLC, joining the firm directly after passing the Kentucky Bar Exam on her first attempt.
Kelly obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisville as well, majoring in Sociology, minoring in Race and Gender Studies, and graduating cum laude. Kelly financed her first college degree by combining scholarships and hard work, including cleaning toilets, performing office administration, waiting tables, selling wine, even high-security diamond transport.
After she and her husband welcomed their first child into the world, she experienced a profound shift in values. She trained extensively and began serving as a doula: a non-medical assistant who supports pregnant people and their families by helping them achieve their goals. Her experiences as an advocate within the healthcare system and consumer parenting complex led her to pursue a career in legal advocacy.
Kelly received multiple merit-based scholarship offers to law schools throughout the country but decided to stay in her beloved hometown and attend the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. Kelly received the CALI Award in Upper-Level Writing and Research and made the Dean’s List in Spring 2021, despite the difficulties of the ongoing pandemic.
During law school, she was able to put her advocacy in action as a Student Attorney at the Ackerson Law Clinic, helping survivors of domestic violence obtain protective orders. Kelly served on the Executive Board for if/when/how: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice at U of L. She also gained valuable experience working for private law firms and attorneys in the areas of family law, personal injury, civil rights, and non-profit compliance.
