Residents of the Newburg neighborhood can drop by a series of town hall meetings this week to get help filling out claim forms and other paperwork for the GE fire class action lawsuit.
The meetings, hosted by Jones Ward PLC, will take place at the Newburg Library, 4800 Exeter Avenue. Jones Ward is the law firm representing plaintiffs with property damage from the massive fire in April 2015 at GE’s Appliance Park complex. At the time, officials described the fire as the largest in Louisville history. After more than two years of litigation, Jones Ward’s class action team recently announced a settlement with GE and Derby Industries worth approximately $1.2 million. Eligible neighborhood residents may fill out claim forms to participate in the settlement, and receive compensation based on the amount of soot and ash damage to their property, the location of their property in relation to Appliance Park, and other factors. More details are available at www.GEfiresettlement.com. Claim forms are due January 16, 2018.
This week’s town hall meetings are open to any class member who needs help with the claim form or wants to ask questions of the legal team. Attendance is not required in order to participate in the settlement. The process is being overseen by a third-party administrator, Ed Gentle of Hoover, Alabama. The toll-free phone line for the settlement administrator is 1-800-345-0837.
